Five hundred years ago the explorer Ferdinand Magellan set out to be the first person to circumnavigate the globe. When he rounded what we now know as Magellan's Strait he entered the largest body of water on earth. He named it-PACIFIC, the peaceful sea-in Latin "Mare pacificum." Fortunately for Magellan, he experienced the quiet waters of this vast ocean. For many, it is not uncommon to experience tropical storms and tsunamis capable of destroying islands and entire coastal towns-let alone throwing your ship around like driftwood.
