The Christmas season is one that many think of in warm and peaceful terms.  In stark contrast, for hundreds in Cloverdale, Christmas is a time of bare cupboards and insufficient means to provide simple pleasures.  The Cloverdale Christmas Hamper Program (CCHP) provides generous food hampers to help individuals and families enjoy the Christmas season without having to worry about some basic needs.

We already have almost 150 adults, 50 teenagers and 70 children registered to receive hampers on Dec 19th.  This means we have over 100 hampers to fill and we are still accepting donations for another week and a half.

We are putting out a challenge to fill up our donation boxes this next two Sundays (November 20 & Dec 6).

Here are some suggestions for donation:

  • non-perishable, unopened, food items such as: canned vegetables or fruit, soup, crackers, snacks, canned meat/fish, condiments (ketchup, syrup), pasta, rice, etc.
  • toiletries & personal care items
  • new gloves, socks & scarves
  • new unwrapped children's toys & gifts (newborn - age 12 years)
  • mall gift cards (for youth 13-17)
  • grocery or food gift cards

Please no alcohol, homemade/canned food items, expired or opened packages.  Please bring your donations to church with you on Sunday morning or drop by the church office (9 am-2 pm) and we'll accept your donations.

We will also have an offering designated to the Cloverdale Christmas Hamper Program this coming Sunday (Nov 29th).  Monetary donations go towards purchasing food items that do not come in by donation as well as supplies and general operating costs.  If you would like to make a cash donation, please come prepared on Sunday (cheques can be made out to Pacific Community Church, memo line: CCHP).  You can also send a cash donation through your paypal account here.  Tax receipts will be issued for monetary donations over $5.

If you cannot give in these ways, maybe you can partner with us in prayer.  The individuals and families that will come through our doors to pick up their hampers on December 19 will be filled with many different emotions.  Pray that they see Jesus in the faces of the volunteers that greet them and that they will feel embraced by this community through these simple gifts.
