Elders

At Pacific Community Church, we have a highly empowered team that is volunteer led called the Board of Elders (BOE). The men and women who make up our BOE are committed followers of Jesus, with a deep love for our people and for the Pacific. Our elders are often involved on the front lines of ministry, and they also serve behind the scenes: discerning God's direction for our church community, and coming alongside our pastoral staff.

  Myrna and I are native Albertans who grew up in Calgary and attended First Alliance Church.  Almost every significant spiritual event in our lives happened at First Alliance.  In that one church I was baptized, discipled, called to ministry, married, ordained, and inducted as youth pastor.    It's impossible to imagine our lives without the influence of  Sunday School teachers, youth workers, camp counselors, and committed adults who discipled us in our formative years.

  It was at an official church youth event (New Year's Eve Party) that I first kissed Myrna.  I was 13!  It was a holy kiss of course.  There must have been something in that kiss because seven years later we got married.  We packed up and moved to Regina where I finished my schooling at Canadian Bible College.  Upon graduation we moved back to Calgary where I served for seven years as Youth Pastor at First Alliance.  In 1986 we left our home town for the West Coast and have served at Sevenoaks Alliance and North Shore Alliance.  On Jan. 1, 2008, we opened a fresh new chapter with the congregation at Pacific Community Church. 

  We have three married children, Grady (and Carly), Charlie (and Becky), and Annie (and Spencer) and one grandchild (Mary).  Hanging out with these wonderful people is the joy of our lives. 

  My hobbies are painting and racquet sports.  Myrna is an avid reader.  We've enjoyed a weekly date almost every week of our married life.  Now that we're empty nesters, our whole life will be a date!  Our favorite cheap date is dinner at Presto Panini on Hornby and Smithe.  Home made Italian food, and nothing on the menu over ten bucks.  Our favorite coffee is JJ Bean Inferno.  I anticipate many cups of coffee with our new friends at Pacific in the coming years.

  My wife, Sheila, and I have been attending Pacific for a number of years and have three kids - Kyran (7), Koen (4) and Maiya (2). Both of us have grown up in the Alliance church, Sheila spending many years at Surrey Alliance and I at Coquitlam Alliance before we married and started attending PCC in the late 90's.

  I'm an accountant and am currently working for Finning Canada. Numbers have always been somewhat of a passion of mine (yes, Math was always my favorite subject in school) and I've been honored to serve as the appointed treasure and provide some insight and summaries to the numbers and finances that God has blessed PCC with.

  Some of my favorite moments are those spent camping and vacationing with my family and friends.  This time, spent away from the hectic pace of regular routine, brings an opportunity to slow down and reflect on the many blessings that God has put in our lives.

  My wife and I have been attending PCC since 1997 and have been active in the greeting/ushering/hospitality ministry since soon after coming.  I have been on the Board for the last 5 years and involved with the Missions Team for 9 years or so.  I especially feel blessed that in the last few years I have been able to form closer relationships with a number of PCC people and witness the church as a whole putting down deeper spiritual roots.  I really appreciate our good Board – staff working relationship and our increasing emphasis on prayer.  I enjoy spending time with my wife and family (including our granddaughter!), seeing the beauty of nature and getting together with friends.

  My wife Katina and I began attending Pacific Community Church in 1995 as a young dating couple.  We were married in September of 1996 and have enjoyed the opportunity of growing up with PCC since then.  God blessed us with our first son Dane in May of 2002; then our second son Levi in September 2004 and our daughter Micah (on my birthday!) in May 2006. 

  I’m a partner in an IT services company based in Langley and always enjoy working with people and technology.  When spare time allows I enjoy making video productions with my brother Cory as a creative outlet.  Katina and I are also big NFL football fans and have learned to maintain a loving attitude when our teams square off against each other. 

  Above all Katina and I love our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ without whom we are nothing.  Even in the dark days that PCC came through a few years ago we saw Jesus working in our hearts and in the hearts of the congregation.  We look forward to what He has in store for us in the days to come.  “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:19

  I have been attending Pacific since fall 2004 with my wife Melissa. We have three kids: Tyler, Jenna, and Landon. I work in Langley as the Service Manager for The BMW store.

  When I have spare time, I like working in my yard and around my house on various projects. I love spending time outdoors in the sun and love going to Maui in the winter to find some sun.

Leaders

At Pacific, very little could be accomplished without the dedicated time spent by our Ministry Leaders. God has gifted each of us individually and has given us unique callings. Under the discipleship of our Pastoral staff, these volunteer leaders head up some of our ministries here. They work in the trenches to live out the Gospel and share it in this community, their surrounding communities and the world.

  I have been attending PCC since 1996 and have been doing our bookkeeping since March 1998.  Working here has played a significant role in my life and I know that this job is one of God’s gifts to me.  Each person I have been on staff with here through the years has helped shape who I have become and I am grateful for each friendship I have made.  It has been a blessing to see how God uses all circumstances, good and bad, for His glory if we allow His grace to work in our lives and then extend it to others.  I have come to a place where I “Believe God”, not just “Believe in Him”, and He has proven Himself faithful and trustworthy through His Word.

  I have 3 “young adult” children, who bring much joy and purpose to my life.  As they have gotten more independent there is the struggle between sadness, in the letting go, and joy, in seeing who they have become.  I love spending time with them and I am learning to enjoy time on my own and stepping out to try new things.  I like to play volleyball, read and support my hockey team – The Canucks. 

  A verse that has been so meaningful to me these past few years is Isaiah 41:13 – “For I am the Lord, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.”

  I have been attending Pacific since fall 2004 with my husband Corey. We are blessed to be parents to our three energetic kids: Tyler (5.5), Jenna (4) and Landon (2). For the last five years I have been enjoying everyday life with my kids at home and prior to that was a teacher.

  I love traveling and have had the privilege of spending time in Europe and Africa. My favorite place in the world (other then my home) is Maui where we love to visit every January. I also love visiting with friends, going for walks with my family, and reading a good book.

  I love seeing what God is doing in our church and I enjoy the community that we experience here at Pacific each and every week.

  I have been attending PCC since 2005 with my husband Denny (then fiancee).  We have a beautiful daughter named Madison.  She is a miracle and a continuous joy to us.

  If you catch me at home, you'll probably see a cloud of scurry around me.  I'm a cleaner, organizer, scrap booker, chef and at the end of the night I unwind watching Food Network to help me stop thinking about all the stuff I still need to do.  I go to bed way too early and I have never been in a good enough mood to sing in the shower in the morning and can't understand anyone who can.  I'd love to learn how to sit still one day, since I have the attention span of a puppy, and read one whole book - I usually have at least 3 on the go at once.

  I am a Pastor's Kid that has grown up in the church and I've been in various ministries since I was 8 years old. I love God and want to serve Him with whatever gifts and talents I have, and I'm thrilled that He has led me to PCC!  I want to be contagious in my devotion to God and I want to inspire the servant's heart in everyone I meet.

  The beginning of 2010  means that I will have been around PCC for 10 years.  Monica and I grew up in the Christian Reformed Tradition (dutch sub-culture of post WW2 immigrants).  After seminary training at Calvin Seminary and receiving our first call to Surrey BC we eventually made our adventurous journey into Pacific.  We became involved in Pacific when we were just on our own and now there are two littler Heuvings, Eric and Iain, making noise.  Life happens and life at Pacific will always happen.  That is what we love.   We consider it a great privilege to serve the King in the way he has called us and we love serving among those with the same love and purpose.   One day, after some of the parent duties settle a bit, I hope to make myself a kayak and paddle to Vancouver Island but don't tell Monica. 

  My Doctor of Ministry Study in Congregational Mission and Leadership.  Pacific has allowed me to enter a course of studies that began April 2008 (Graduation is 2013 if i complete my dissertation on time).  I am attending Luther Seminary in Minneapolis.  It is a five year program.  Every course lasts six months and requires that I take a one  week trip to Minneapolis for class time.  I started a blog that provides more information about the course along with some pictures of the campus. The blog is a way to give others a chance to interact with my studies.  Feel welcome to read some of the papers and comment on them.  I would love to hear from you.  If you are really keen to get in on the conversation team that I am building give me a call or email.

  A Cloverdale resident, Lisa Page has been attending PCC for the last two years with her husband Daryl. She has the great pleasure of being Mommy to her 4 year old daughter Alexis and new baby, Hudson.

  Lisa is an outdoor enthusiast and enjoys such sports as running, kayaking and rock climbing. When not at play, Lisa works as a paramedic for the BC Ambulance Service in Vancouver. For the past 16 years, she has dedicated her time and service to people in crisis. As PCC's Emergency Response Team is developed, Lisa looks forward to gathering and engaging people who share her passion for first aid and service.

  My family began attending PCC when I was in Grade 1 I think, so doing the math that makes it about 12 years. Starting in Grade 3 I started playing drums in the Sunday School Worship Band, probably quite terribly.  Ever since then, I have been involved in one worship team or another, be it Sunday school, Youth teams, or playing on Sunday mornings.  I now lead a team on Sunday mornings, lead the Legacy youth worship team, and I am also a youth leader at Legacy.

  I am looking forward to an Intern position at PCC, working, alongside Katie Perkins, with the youth group.  I am very thankful for, and excited about this opportunity, and I hope to continue to grow in and learn about all aspects of ministry, God has blessed me with musical gifts, and I want to use them to glorify Him.

  My wife Carol and I have been attending Pacific Community Church (PCC) since September 2009. From the moment we stepped through the door at PCC we felt welcome and at home. About nine months after we started at PCC both Carol and I joined the Hospitality Ministry team as Greeters. Not long after that, I took on the role of one of the Head Ushers. It is a privileged to be able to serve the PCC community through the Hospitality Ministry.
  
  When I am not welcoming and greeting folks at PCC you could find me working as an Advocate for Strata Owners, helping them through what is often a very difficult time as they face major capital expenses in repairing their leaky condo home.
