As part of our annual safety requirements, PCC will be participating in a number of silent fire drills. Rather than evacuating everyone at once, we will be conducting small group drills over several weeks within the Children's Ministry. Running informal drills gives us the opportunity to practice safety procedures and ask questions along the way.
You will be given advance warning when your classroom is participating in the drill. If you have a child in the Toddler classroom (24-36 months), please anticipate a drill on Sunday April 1st. This will be performed during the service and parents will not need to participate. Parents, please ensure that shoes and coats are left with the children in their classroom this Sunday.
Our goal is to quietly walk through these drills for the benefit and safety of our children, as well as to use this as a reminder to our volunteers of the procedures they have learned during training.
Extra staff, Ushers, and First Aid Team members will be on hand to monitor the drill and provide assistance if needed.
If you are a Children's Ministry volunteer, when asked, your job will be to use the evacuation route posted in your classroom and walk your children to the assembly area. The assembly area is the cul de sac in front of the church. It will be well marked and have volunteers waiting to receive you.
The goal is to complete the steps simulating a real evacuation:
1. Bring the children
2. Bring the attendance sheet
3. Bring the first aid kit
Once at the assembly area, you will take attendance to ensure everyone is present. You are then free to take your children back to the classroom and once again take the attendance. Ideally, the silent drill will be of short duration.
We have a number of volunteers and staff that have specific roles and responsibilities to assist in the smooth delivery of the drill. The idea of fire drills has the potential to cause anxiety with many people, but please know that these safety procedures have been well planned to give our volunteers and children the experience needed should an emergency occur.
Any questions arising from parents can also be directed to Lisa Page(Emergency Response Team Leader) at northshorepage@shaw.ca or (778) 773-1993, she would be more than happy to dialogue with you.
