The Coldest Night of the Year (CNOY) is a fantastically fun, family-friendly walking fundraiser that raises money for the hungry, homeless, and hurting in 65 communities across Canada.
The 2, 5, and 10 km WALK is held on Saturday February 22, 2014 and provides participants the opportunity to experience a hint of the challenges faced by those undergoing homelessness while raising much needed revenue for their favourite local charity. Pacific Community is participating this year with a goal to raise $30,000 to invest in the operations of the Cloverdale Community Kitchen. Since 2011 the Coldest Night of the Year has raised $2.4 million dollars through the tireless efforts of each of our well-known and well respected location partners (charities).
This is a wonderful event for a number of reasons. First, it helps us to move into the next phase of the kitchen. Now that it is built, we have to run it. Second, the walk event will be a way for all the supporters to gather together to not only celebrate the official opening of the kitchen but express a commitment to make it happen. Third, the event raises our awareness about the social issues in our community and our country surrounding hunger, hurting, and homelessness. The walk will, at the very least, put us into the shoes of those who find themselves stuck outside when they would rather be inside.
The secret to the fundraising success is to recruit 20 team captains who will build a team of 7 to 8 people who together will seek pledges in support of their walk. An average team can raise $1500. 20 average teams together can raise $30,000.
You can either join a team or start a team. Click on our Coldest Night of the Year web page to sign up.
We hope you can walk so that we can make the Cloverdale Community Kitchen run!
