Holiday Hampers

This holiday season Alongside Families in Haiti, have a goal to provide 57 of their students with a nutritious food hamper that will not only provide for them physically but encourage them to celebrate their heritage. As well they hope to provide 200 smaller hampers for others in the community (which will include food & hygiene items).

This year the holiday food hampers will include the ingredient needs to make Soup Joumou! Soup Joumou is not only an incredibly flavorful, hearty, and warming dish, but it has a powerful story behind it. This traditional Haitian soup, made with a Caribbean pumpkin called Joumou, was once a delicacy reserved for white enslavers but forbidden to the enslaved people who cooked it. After Haiti won its independence from France on January 1, 1804, Haitians made a tradition of eating the soup each Independence Day (which also happens to be New Year’s Day) to celebrate their freedom.

NUA: Christmas

NUA:Christmas explores the why behind the glitz and glam of Christmas, considering how the first Christmas fits with the narrative of the Jewish faith. The Jewish people had been awaiting a Savior for thousands of years since his coming was foretold in the Garden of Eden. All signs were pointing towards this unique moment in recorded history but when it arrived it was nothing like what they were expecting! We eagerly look forward to Christmas each year, but that wasn’t the case for most people for the very first Christmas! It was certainly a big surprise for Jesus’ mum Mary to find out she would be the mother of the Messiah.

Join Sarah Campbell, Darren Bourke and Mark Murray on a very unique and entertaining journey that highlights the true meaning of Christmas
