SAYING GOODBYE TO COURTNEY

SAYING GOODBYE TO COURTNEY

We have received the official resignation of Courtney van den Boogaard from her position as Manager of Communications and Community Engagement.  This will be effective April 30th, 2021. This is sad news for us as we are losing a colleague, friend, and ultimately a champion for the Cloverdale Community Kitchen.

While we are sad, we are also so excited and happy for Courtney.  Courtney has accepted a position with a leading women’s non-profit in Langley.  This non-profit did an extensive search for the best talent in the province and their ‘head-hunters’ had Courtney on the top of their list.  This is a great opportunity, and we wish all the best for Courtney.

During the interim Lindsay, Hoefie, and myself will be handling Courtney’s tasks while we begin our own extensive search to add a new team member to CCK.  If anyone has any leads, please send them to one of us. If you have any questions or concerns you can contact myself and I would be happy to answer your questions.

Ultimately Courtney will always be a part of our CCK family and we know she will continue to change the world in her new role.  Please send notes of encouragement to Courtney over the next few weeks and tell her how much we all appreciate her and what she has done to help our community. We will be hosting a COVID friendly drive thru / parking lot event on April 29th to recognize Courtney.  Please plan to attend and leave an encouragement card.

Matthew Campbell
Cloverdale Community Kitchen Director

MOBILE MEALS CARE TEAM

MOBILE MEALS CARE TEAM

We are putting together a Care Team of volunteers who can perform wellness checks on some of our Mobile Meals clients who have been flagged as needing more care. Many of our clients are seniors who are extremely lonely and vulnerable, and some of our clients are living in less-than-ideal conditions. Therefore, in addition to providing physical nourishment with our meals, we want to be able to provide some form of mental, emotional, and spiritual support.

This role may be as simple as a phone call once a week or may involve an occasional COVID-safe porch/door visit. We might then help connect the client with other resources to address some of their most pressing needs.

The CCK team would provide you with some basic training to help equip you for this role. If this is something you would be interested in being a part of, or you would like more information, please email LINDSAY REMPEL.

MISSIONAL MOMENT

MISSIONAL MOMENT

Pacific is a church that is passionate about missions and this week we want to hightlight a partnership we have with Naim (North American Indigenous Ministries) - Pacific supports Naim through giving and prayer.

NAIM is committed to the growth and maturity of the First Nations Church, resulting in vibrant ministry to its community and beyond. We desire to see strong healthy First Nation/Native American believers connected to strong healthy local churches.

Tim Higginbotham is the Operations Director of NAIM overseeing Regional Directors and ministries. Read below as he shares some of the highs and lows since their last update!

"It is with great sadness that we mark the passing of Lana’s dad, Gordon Tansley, this past March 18.  He was 83. We all laugh at some of the pictures on the walls at grandpa and grandma’s house.  He never hesitated to put photos of the family and loved ones on his walls.  They were over pixelated, sometimes out of focus and of course had sticky smiley faces over ex-boyfriends.  It reminds me of Native families who have their ‘wealth on their walls’…not certificates of accomplishments or degrees or paintings from some exotic vacation they’ve been on…but photos of the things they hold dearest in life…photos of their kids and families and grandkids.

The world has changed a lot and it feels like it isn’t slowing down.  Covid has forced almost every institution to fast forward 10 years or so.  We need to learn new ways of doing things and that’s a leadership piece I’ve been working on the last year. We enlisted the help of Jolene Erlacher, a ‘generational expert’ based out of Chicago.  She did an online seminar for staff. It was sobering and excellent.

Recruiting and keeping younger staff has proven challenging the last five to ten years.  She spoke of the “Daniel Generation” ...a realization that those who join NAIM long-term will be exceptional.  Also, that there is often a spiritual movement connected to significant cultural shifts.

Recently, a leader outside NAIM said, “The gifting that got you the foothold organizationally will not be the same to take you to the next level.”

Covid has taught us many things that we will bring forward...streamlined organizational platforms, a coaching and teams approach for new staff and integration of younger perspectives into leadership.

Camps continue to be up in the air with current Covid restrictions.  We are hoping to run a smaller and scaled down camp in Mt. Currie this summer.  Church youth leaders have been calling and asking for updates.  We can only move at the speed of government and community protocol. A few weeks ago, a friend and I were up at Mt. Currie checking out the Red Soul Rising Bush Camp location.  The elders on whose property we run the camp wanted to make some changes to the outdoor kitchen.  Later in the day my friend told me one of the elders joked about telling local friends to “look out!  The Christians are coming."

I asked if he thought she was being sarcastic or trying to distance herself from some of our collective bad history with Indigenous peoples.  He didn't think so...he said she tells other groups about "the Christians" and RSR and said the pushback is mainly from non-Native groups wondering why they still partner with Christians.  I think, and they verbalized, they genuinely miss the RSR connection and kids each summer."

Growth Groups

Growth Groups

Here at Pacific we are committed to providing avenues for every person in our church to connect with others.

One of the primary ways that we aim to provide means for connection to occur organically is through Growth Groups, which are small groups that help us grow in Christ and in community with each other.

Our Growth Groups will have Christmas, Spring and Summer breaks and to ensure that all people at PCC have the tremendous opportunity to connect with each other, we need both group leaders and hosts.

If you are interested in getting involved, please contact Pastor Prince at Pastor Prince's Email or register here to lead or host a group!

C&MA CONNECTION

C&MA CONNECTION

My phone went off with that unique and piercing sound that immediately caught my attention. It was an Amber Alert calling the public to open their eyes and be on the lookout for a missing child who may have been abducted. When this warning signal sounds, we all hold our breath and pray for the safe return of the child. But more importantly, we immediately become alert, watching for any clue that may help locate the child; ready to respond as quickly as possible.

The Amber Alert system serves as a powerful tool to help protect the most vulnerable, but it does so by depending on the quick and active response of each individual. I wish there was an app I could download on my phone that would serve as a Sin Alert – a warning signal that would go off when I start to head toward a place of compromise, step close to the line of disobedience, or am tempted by sin.
