Over the next seven days, we are inviting our church to embrace a community commitment practice.
Each day, we will focus on one expression of prayer and encouragement, and as we practice these, we do not only think of and pray for ourselves, but also for the people we love, just as Paul did in Colossians 1:1-14.
Monday: Pray for Thanksgiving
We invite you to commit to creating space during our day to take time to thank God for who He is and for what He has done. Name specific things. Let gratitude shape your perspective. And as you do, pray that those you love would also grow in a spirit of thankfulness, that they would recognize God’s goodness in their lives.
Tuesday: Pray for Knowledge & Wisdom
We invite you to commit to praying for knowledge that leads to Christlike wisdom. Ask God to help you understand His will more clearly, and to form your life around it. And pray the same for others, that they would grow in wisdom and understanding, and live lives that reflect God’s will.
Wednesday: Pray for Endurance
We invite you to commit to pray for endurance, asking God to strengthen you so that you can faithfully persist in what you are facing. And pray for those you love that they would be strengthened with God’s power, able to endure and remain faithful.
Thursday: Pray for Joy
We invite you to commit to seeking God in prayer for joy. We are asking Him to anchor our hearts in what He has done, so that our joy will not be dependent on our circumstances. Also, we pray that others would experience that same joy, that is, a firm confidence rooted in who God is and what He has done.
Friday: Reflect on your Story
We invite you to commit to reflect on our stories. Remember where God has met you and what He has done in your life. And as you remember, pray for others, that they would come to see and recognize God’s work in their own lives.
Saturday: Reflect on God’s Advancement
We invite you to commit to reflect on where God is at work. Pay attention to His movement in the world and let it stir you toward participation. And pray that those around you would see it as well, that their eyes would be opened to God’s activity and that they would step into it.
Sunday: Reflect on Love in You
We invite you to commit to set aside time to reflect on the love God has placed within you. Consider how He is shaping your relationships and where He is inviting you to respond. And pray that this love would be evident in the lives of others, that the Spirit would form in them a love that reflects the character of Christ.
This community commitment is an invitation to position ourselves to encounter Jesus in the ways our hearts need. May you know deeply God’s love for you through the presence of the Holy Spirit as you engage wholeheartedly.
