Lent is an integral season for believers worldwide—a time for personal reflection to prepare our hearts and minds to remember Jesus’ crucifixion on Good Friday and celebrate His resurrection on Easter Sunday. Many Christians engage in fasting and focused prayer during Lent as a means, empowered by the Holy Spirit, to lead more godly lives by embodying the teachings of Jesus.

We observe Lent for 40 days, and this number is not arbitrary. Lent is linked to the 40 years the Israelites spent in the wilderness before entering the Promised Land and to the 40 days Jesus spent praying and fasting in the wilderness before beginning His public ministry of proclaiming the nearness of the Kingdom of God.

If you are looking for resources to engage with this Lenten season, we recommend the “Lent for Everyone” reading plan by NT Wright, which is available for free on the YouVersion Bible app.

Additionally, if you are interested in fasting during this season and don't know where to start, we suggest "Practicing The Way's Guide to Fasting." Also, check out this sermon on fasting preached by Pastor Prince earlier this year, available here.

Let's commit to journeying through this Lenten season a church, striving to emulate Christ's way in our time and context.
